A small group of residents and member of the community turned out last night for the Acaidian Bus Line public information session to express their concern over the purposed cut to bus service between Saint John and Bangor. One clear message was sent to the EUB and that was to deny an application by Acadian Coach Lines to cancel the only bus route between Saint John and Bangor Maine.
In documents submitted to the regulator, Acadian states declines in revenue and passenger traffic are hurting the company's bottom line and it must make changes to stay on the road. The route from Saint John to Bangor is an estimated a yearly loss of more than $200,000.
It has applied to cancel the route between Miramichi and Fredericton, which it claims averages only 11 passengers a day and loses about $90,000 a year.
Last night's session was the second of three public hearings...The EUB has not said when it will make a decision

Search for missing Woodstock man continues, Woodstock
The Woodstock Town Police Force and the Carleton/York RCMP have concluded the ground search of the immediate area in Allendale, NB., where the vehicle of a local missing man, 30-year old Gregory Wry of Woodstock was located on March 6. The two agencies along with the assistance of Carleton Ground Search and Rescue, Police Service dogs and a helicopter made an extensive search of the immediate area surrounding the vehicle’s location but all efforts failed to uncover any clues that would assist in locating Mr. Wry. A second area around the Wry family camp in Kilmarnock, NB was also searched, but again, no evidence was found that would assist the police in locating Mr. Wry. The RCMP Police Service Dog section will be utilized in a further search this week in a larger area near the Allendale location.
Mr. Wry is described as 5'8" and weighs 140 pounds. He has brown hair worn brush-cut style, green eyes and scruffy facial hair. He often wears a ball cap and was last seen wearing a jacket with leather sleeves and brown cloth patches, jeans and sneakers.
The investigation into the Mr. Wry’s disappearance is continuing by the two police agencies. Anyone who has seen Mr. Wry or had contact with him since he was last seen on February 21, 2010 is asked to contact the police or N.B. Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

New NBCC Programs in September
New programs will be available at New Brunswick Community College (NBCC) campuses as of September. Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Donald Arseneault made the announcement today.
A Carpentry, and Plumbing program will be offered at NBCC Saint Andrews campus with 18 seats open for each class also an Industrial Electrical Program offering 16 seats. Starting In January of 2011 Saint Andrews campus will also offer the Practical Nurse Course with 16 seats up for grabs.
Early Childhood Education will be offered at the Woodstock campus with 20 seats...Medical Office Administration new to the Fredericton campus a two-year program in Computerized Numerically Controlled Machining at the Moncton campus.
The Flooring Installation program previously taught at NBCC Woodstock campus has been transferred to NBCC Moncton campus.

Willow's Whisper's Lana Button releases children book
A native to St. Stephen releases her first picture book. Lana Button currently living in Southern Ontario has worked in early childhood education for over twenty years. Button has written for today's parent and ladybug magazines and is currently on tour throughout the province. Button landed in St. Stephen on Sunday and has been at the local school reading her book as a part of her tour across the province.. Cooke Aquaculture Signs Letter of Intent to Purchase Seafood Distribution Company
Cooke Aquaculture has announced the signing of a Letter of Intent to purchase the assets of Ocean to Ocean and its subsidiary Ocean King.
Ocean to Ocean is an importer, frozen seafood distribution and marketing company based in Montreal. Its main customers are major retailers in North America and its products, including value added seafood products, farmed salmon, tilapia and shrimp and wild caught scallops and haddock, are sold both under their own brand name and under retail and private labels.
Ocean King, which was purchased by Ocean to Ocean in 2009, is an added value processor of seafood with a processing facility in Philadelphia. The company produces products such as salmon pinwheels (salmon stuffed with seafood), salmon burgers and other niche products that are sold to major retailers across North America. Together
Ocean to Ocean and Ocean King generate over $40 Million in annual sales. CEO of Cooke Aquaculture Glenn Cooke said they are pleased to be able to expand the value added and distribution part of ourgrowing corporate family. The purchase will enable us to strengthen our position with North American retailers in the value added and frozen seafood category.
The deal is expected to close at the end of March. Juneau to be Liberal candidate in Charlotte-Campobello
A native of St. Stephen and former federal government employee will be the Liberal candidate for Charlotte-Campobello in the upcoming provincial elections set for next September. Annabelle Juneau defeated fellow Liberals Ralph Williams and Dave Ganong on Saturday in a packed-house convention at St. Stephen High School.
“I have deep roots in this region, I know it well, and I’m familiar with the working of government,” said Juneau. “So I feel like I could do a lot for this riding if I make it to Fredericton next September.”
Juneau was a federal government employee for 34 years until her retirement late last year. She ended her public service career with Canada Border Services Agency in St. Stephen. The former graduate of St. Stephen High School also spent six years with Human Resources Development Canada, and 15 years with the federal communications department in Moncton where she was the regional operations manager for the Atlantic region.
Juneau says that, if elected, she would support seniors housing, a new building for the fire department on Campobello Island, improvement to education and health services, and job creation.
“This government has a solid record in education, and in health and seniors care too,” said Juneau. “This government has also performed well on the jobs front, especially given that we’re outperforming many other jurisdictions in the midst of a severe recession.”
“I’m anxious to join this Liberal team and roll up my sleeves to help make New Brunswick an even better place to work and live,” added Juneau.
Juneau has deep roots in Charlotte-Campobello. She is the granddaughter of the late businessman Guy R. Day. She also has a business background of her own. Juneau has owned and operated several businesses, including the former Fairy Tales Can Come True and Charlotte County Covered Bridge Tours. She currently owns and operates Nutrition Connection Canada.
Juneau has also volunteered her time to the Charlotte County Cancer Society, the NB Kidney Foundation, and the Aquaculture Fair.

Saint John women dies in car crash
District 3 RCMP responded to a fatal motor vehicle collision on Highway 1 in Hammond River yesterday that has left one women dead. The collision occurred when the vehicle entered the median and subsequently rolled over. The driver, a 46 year old woman from Saint John was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene as a result of her injuries. Weather conditions were clear and the roadway was dry at the time of the incident. The collision remains under investigation. The victims name is not being released pending notification of next of kin.

Accident on Highway one
The Musquash Fire Department responded today around 3 pm to a accident that occurred on Route 790 between Highway 1 and the Lepreau Village Road. A car and a pick up truck collided head on - the driver of one vehicle had to be cut out of this car using hydraulic extrication tools. Both drivers were transported to hospital for treatment. Firefighters closed the stretch of roadway to all traffic while working at the scene and until the vehicles were removed from the ditch.
Cold case Hit and Run Petit-Rocher
Crime Stoppers and the B.N.P.P. Regional Police Force are looking into a cold case file for information on a hit and run causing death in Petit-Rocher, N.B. more than 25 years ago.On December 15, 1983, at approximately 1 a.m., the B.N.P.P. responded to a hit and run call on Highway 134 in Petit-Rocher North. Officers arrived on the scene to find 20-year-old Lévio Roy lying on the side of the road severely injured. Lévio Roy later died in hospital from injuries sustained in the hit and run. Police believe there is someone who has information that could help solve this case of hit and run causing death. Anyone with any information is asked to call N.B.Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). If your information leads to an arrest, you qualify for a cash award of up to $2,000.

Lake Utopia Steering Committee Seeks New Members...
Recently a group concerned resident came together to form a Steering Committee to lay out the ground work for a for the formation of the Lake Utopia Resident's Association. The health of the Lake has been an ongoing issue with the blue green algae blooms leaving residents to wonder what the potential health risks are to human and aquatic life.
The Department Of Environment is yet to find the cause of the algae bloom but have conducted several investigative studies. In the coming months the committee is looking for new members to join and represent the diverse interests and demographic group. Executive Director of Eastern Waterway and a member of the Steering Committee says residents have been vocal about conditions of the lake.

Governor John E. Baldacci announced details of a $79 million investment package that will create almost 2000 jobs in the State of Maine.
The Governor’s job creation bond package focuses heavily on transportation. $28 million for highway reconstruction and paving, creating an estimated 750 jobs. Three million will be set aside for the municipal highway challenge grant, which will be matched by local dollars and create an estimated 80 jobs.
In addition, the bond package includes $17 million for environmental and energy projects.....$5 million of that to support component manufacturing for wind energy generation at the University of Maine.

New Standard Offer's Contract to lower rates in Maine
Eastern Maine Electric Cooperative has good economic news for its members in Eastern and Northern Maine. The cost of electricity supply will drop on all electricity used starting April 1st, when a new Standard Offer supply contract will begin. The first year of the new three-year contract, awarded to NB Power of Fredericton.
The new rate will result in a decrease of approximately 10% in the total residential electric bill and a 19% decrease in the standard offer supply portion of the bill.

Acadian Coach Lines Info Session set for Tuesday
A Public Information Session will be held tuesday on the proposal to discontinue service between Saint John and Bangor. The proposal would result in the termination of bus service in Pennfield, St. George, St. Andrews and St. Stephen. The meeting gets underway at 5:30 at The Milltown Legion with Reps from Acadian Coach Lines on hand....
Peewee Provicial Hockey Championship held in St. Stephen
The local St. Stephen hockey peewee A hockey team Moffitt Dodge Storm is very excited to be hosting the provincial championships on the weekend of March 26th to 28th.
The team will be playing in four round robin games - noon and 6:00 on both Friday and Saturday. As well, the final game will be on Sunday morning. The 6:00 game on Friday will be the opening ceremonies and we're encouraging all local hockey players to wear their jerseys, show their team spirit, and get in free. As well for Friday's noon game the first 50 people wearing green and white will get a free candy bag.

NBCC Explosion sends Instructor and Student to Hospital
Two people taken to hospital Wednesday evening after an explosion at NBCC in Saint Andrews. This incident took place during a scheduled Training activity for the Hospitaility and Toursim program. Principal Terry Dempsey tells Tide News the Instruction has been transported to the Saint John Regional for further assessment and the student is expected to be released from the Charlotte County Hospital today.
Dempsey tells us this is a very unfortunate incident that occurred, in spite of all the experience and safety precautions.
WorkSafe NB is conducting an investigation. The cause has yet to be determined.
