New Ferry Schedule

The new ferry schedule takes effect today for Belleisle and Gagetown. Both services will only be operating between 6 in the morning and 11 in the evening until a private company takes over.

There are at least three contractors showing an interest in operating the Belleisle and Gagetown ferries.
The provincial government plans to hand over the two ferry services to community led groups in both areas once all they have all legal documentation in place. The province will continue to operate the ferries until the transition is complete.


 

 

New Brunswick's Age is Showing

Figures from Stats-Canada show New Brunswick's population is aging at a rate faster than the national average with more people coming to the province to retire.
And U-N-B-S-J political science professor - Don Desserud - tells us that's going to change the focus of the various parties:

 Desserud says the political parties need to attract more young people in order to renew and promote new ideas for the challenges of the future.


Boat Licenses

If you operate a  Boat you must have a license to drive one, according to the Canadian Coast Guard. Assistant director for Parks and Recreation Leah Nixton tells tide news over the past ten years the coast guard has implemented new changes to operate a powered boat.

 Nixton tell us that they are offering a course here in St Stephen at the fire hall, 199 Union Street on Thursday July 9 at 6:30 to 9:30pm. You have to be 16 years of age or older for the course.
