Shed Fire In South Musquash

A shed going up in flames in South Musquash.

Seventeen firefighters responding with three pumpers and a heavy rescue unit were able to quickly put it the blaze.

The RCMP and ambulance were also on scene, and the Blacks Harbour Fire Department was called in to help but was turned back as they were on their way.

Fishing Association President Calls This Season A Success

As ice-fishing enthusiasts get ready to retire their ice shacks until next year, the President of the Renforth Fishing Association giving this season a thumbs up. 

Gary Gower tells us ice conditions were the best they've been in years, however the multiple rainstorms that rolled in this winter did cause the Kennebecasis River to rise, which resulting in fishing enthusiasts losing shoreline use for about two weeks this season. He says the number of smelt has been down but their numbers tend to pick up around this time of the year.

The shacks have to come off of the ice by March 15.

Crime Stoppers Working With SPCA To Eliminate Animal Abuse

Two organizations in the province teaming up to crack down on animal abuse in the province. 

Sergeant Noel Cyr of provincial Crime Stoppers tells us their partnership with the SPCA began when the animal welfare group approached them and asked if they could help bring this issue to the public.

Last year in New Brunswick, animal protection officers investigated about 1500 reports of cruelty and neglect involving more than 4000 animals. Cyr says if you witness an animal in distress or feel that an animal is not being properly looked after, you should report it.

Police Officer Involved In Fatal Shooting In K-V

The Rothesay Regional Police Department asking the RCMP's Major Crime Unit to investigate after a fatal shooting in the Kennebecasis Valley involving a police officer.

The incident happening on Friday evening at a home on Shipyard Road in Rothesay as police were responding to a violent domestic dispute.

A 27-year-old man was shot and was rushed to the Regional Hospital where he died from his injuries.

Man Taken To Hospital After Assault Outside Club

Two men taken in custody after a man was assaulted behind Blush Nightclub and had to be taken to hospital.

Saint John Police say it happened in the early morning hours and the two suspects will be appearing in court each facing a charge of assault causing bodily harm.
