SWP gets funding

The town of St. Stephen will be keeping 60 jobs thanks to money from the provincial government. The province is giving S-W-P Industries a 1.4 million dollar loan guarantee to be used as working capital. The company produces fencing using eastern white cedar, spruce and Chinese fir-- and-- is a value-added re-seller of vinyl and aluminum fencing products.

Shelf Fish Harvesting off limits

Fisheries and Oceans Canada advises the public that the harvesting of oysters, clams, mussels, scallops, qua-hogs and whelks, for recreational or commercial purposes is prohibited until further notice.FOC says the foreshore and waters within 1.6 km Canada/United States border and of the Islands of Grand Manan, The Wolves, Bliss, Hills, Frye, Deer and Campobello.
This closure is due to an increase in levels of Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning

Missing Boy Found

A boy reported missing from Dig-by, Nova Scotia has been found in Saint John. City police say the 13-year old ran away from home yesterday and took the ferry across into Saint John. Sgt. Don Cooper tells us his parents thought he was still somewhere in Digby. Officers found the boy roaming the streets around midnight and have placed him with friends of the family until his parents can pick him up today.

Campobello and Blacksharbor Credit Union closes today

Today is the last day for the Credit Union on Campobello Island and in Blacksharbor.This was announced back in April to close the banks.The credit union is the only bank on Campobello which means residents will have to travel to the mainland to do their banking.
