Investment Scammers Busted

A pair of scammers getting their comeuppance after being busted by the provincial securities commission. An Alberta couple named Steven Weeres and Rebekah Donszelmann came to New Brunswick in 2009 and struck up a relationship with a woman here, who they defrauded out of tens of thousands of dollars by spinning lies about false investment opportunities

Rick Hancox of the commission tells TideNews they scammed their victim by pretending to have bought a hotel and courting investment in it

The panel ordered the two to pay out a total of 2 hundred twenty five thousdand dollars and Donszelmann was banned from the NB capital markets for 20 years. Hacox says it's important that people report frauds of this sort because that's the only way justice can be reached.
