An Oromocto man who spanked his five-year-old's bare buttocks so hard until they were bruised has been sentenced to house arrest.
The 36-year-old was given a conditional sentence of 20 days when he appeared in court on a summary assault charge after a judge determined the punishment was excessive.
The man's identity is being withheld to protect the identity of his child.
The court was told the child had been misbehaving and the father had been called by the day care to take him home.
The father must remain inside his house from 6 at night to 6 in the morning until his sentence is completed.
He's also on probation for a year and has been ordered to attend any courses or programs asked of him dealing with parenting or anger issues.
