They came knocking today but minister of Verterain affairs Greg Thomspon was not home.Military vets and civilains are looking for a public inquiry into the sparying at Base Gagetown. Gary Good from British Columbia is one of the organizers and he delivered a letter to one of thomspon's aids demanding an inquiry.
Thomspon is on his way home from Afganistan .Agent orange was a chemical defolant that was spayed in the 50's and 60's in Base gagetown.

Some significant progress is being made in the battle to have Saint Johners fly out of the local airport -- airport president Bernie LeBlanc says shrinkage to other airports has been reduced by 50-percent over the past two years.
And LeBlanc tells us it's no easy task with 5-airports within a four hour drive of the city.
LeBlanc says the latest stats show 65-percent of the passengers through our airport are travelling to Canadian destinations -- 25-percent are headed state side -- and -- ten percent are travelling to international destinations.

Energy Minister Jack Keir, like most of us is watching as the price for crude oil, slowly, but surely continues to climb. We still have a long way to go before we return to $1.40 for a litre of self-serve like last summer but many wonder how much longer? Keir tells CHSJ News, crude climbing back up means the economy is on the rebound.
Keir says he wants to see the economy booming again for several reasons and one is so revenues can return to where they were so budgets don't have to be cut.

A proposed bit of tweaking to criminal law in the country is receiving praise from Fundy Royal M-P Rob Moore.
Moore is also the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice, and says proposed changes to legislation will allow police to become more effective, and efficient.
Some of the changes include allowing police to fingerprint and photograph people taken into custody before being charged or convicted of a crime, introducing a new offence to prevent people from fleeing to avoid prosecution, and changing the application procedure for search and seizure warrants.
Moore says updating the laws will improve Canada's justice system.

Stockholm Sweden has been named the most intelligent city by a New York think-tank--beating out Fredericton and Moncton. The two provincial cities were among seven finalists for the smartest city. Premier Shawn Graham says he's proud of our success, non-the-less.
Graham is on a trade mission in New York, where he says he's learning a lot about the energy market there. The Premier says he's confident meetings with companies in the Big Apple will bring about positive returns for the province--and--says many businesses are planning to visit the province to scope out the energy projects.

Earlier this week while speaking to over 400 delegates at an Energy Conference in Saint John, Minister Jack Keir called for completion of the Trans Canada pipeline. Keir tells us, it seems like a waste the way it is set up right now.
Keir compares it to the early days of the coast to coast railway and Trans Canada Highway. The pipeline path starts in British Columbia and comes to a stop in Quebec City.

RCMP have arrested and laid charges against four people in relation to human smuggling across the St. Stephen border.
43 year old Savita Sing of St. Stephen and 71 year old Vaughn McLuskey of Fredericton have been arrested, as have two Ontario residents. Police the group was allegedly trying to smuggle two migrants into the United States.
All four face charges of criminal conspiracy to violate immigration laws, and will appear in St. Stephen court today.

It's up but certainly not as much as some predicted. The Energy and Utilities Board has released it's weekly price schedule which shows the maximum for a litre of self-serve is 90.9 which is up just over two cents from a week ago.
Furnace Oil is up over a nickel at 73.6 but the huge gain of the week is propane. It sits at 93.3 which is up almost 12 cents from last week.

Four people have been charged in relation to a human smuggling operation in St. Stephen. RCMP say more charges may be laid as they investigate two migrants from Guyana that the group was allegedly attempting to smuggle into the United States.

The Biological station in St Andrews received some funding from the government yesterday. Minister of Veterans affairs Greg Thompson announced that the government is funding 1.3 million dollars over the next two years to modernnize the facility.Thompson says the funding will provide jobs for workers to repair, upgrade and conduct other maintenance work at the station.The St Andrews Biological Station began operations in 1908.

A weekend fire has destroyed a home here in Charlotte County harbour Fire Chief Dale Shaw tells us the fire was at 48 Blacks harbour Road a quarter of kilometre from Pennifield corner.Shaw says the fire call came in around 12:30 yesterday with one person trapped inside but when fire officials arrived at the scene no one was inside the house.Fire departments from St George, Fundy Bay, Pennifield and Musquash assisted to contain the blaze for nearly 4 hours.The two women who live at the residents were not hurt.Shaw says the home is standing but it will have to be torn down and replaced.The cause of the fire was electrical.
