The Mayor of Blacks Harbour appeared in court yesterday answering to a provincial charge from the Department of Health. Terry James tells Tide News, 18 months ago, the town's chlorine readings were low and according to provincial officials guide lines were not followed.
James adds the water source is owned by Connor Brothers but the municipality owns most of the distribution network. The private company is in charge of chlorination procedures and town officials don't have a key to the locked facility. The fine is $1000 dollars and James would like to see the company pay at least half. James adds the public wasn't in any danger at any time. Tide news has place a call to Connor Brothers but still no response.
