A Public meeting was held last night at The St. Stephen Legion for those concerned about the proposed construction at Granville park. This meeting was for a chance for those concerned about the proposed construction and the town rezoning the area for commercial use.
Mayor Jed Purcell tells Tide News he was pleased with the comments and they all will be well considered. Mayor and Council will make a motion for a second reading at Monday Night's council meeting for the re zoning on Granville Park.

SSHS Grand March & Prom
Tonight is Grand March and Prom night for the graduating students at St. Stephen High School. The Grand March will be held at the Border Arena starting at 8 o'clock followed by the Prom at the High School till Midnight.
Police will be out full force making sure everyone has a happy and safe graduation this week. But make no mistake RCMP do tell us charges will be laid for those drinking and driving and those proving liquor to minors will be fined as they enforce their Zero Tolerance policy.

New Vaccine Launched To Better Protect Young Children And Infants
Young children and infants in the Province are being offered a new publicly funded pneumococcal vaccine as part of improvements to the provincial childhood immunization program.
Health Minister Mary Schryer announced today. Invasive pneumococcal disease is a serious bacterial infection commonly associated with severe respiratory tract infections
The vaccine is publicly funded for children who are eight weeks to 12 months old and is available to children and infants, starting Thursday, July 1.

Snorkel's Birthday At Huntsman Marine Science Center
The Huntsman Marine Science Centre is holding a celebration at the aquarium for the star attraction, Snorkel.
The fun starts at 11 a.m., when Snorkel will hopefully blow out a candle, Snorkel will do some of his tricks at the seal feeding, and then there’ll be cake, games, and more fun, for humans. Last year’s party was a lot of fun for all concerned, and Snorkel even received some gifts.
Snorkel, and his dad, Loki, have been big hits since their introduction to the aquarium in May, 2009. Loki was born at the Huntsman in 1996, and Snorkel was born at Storybook Gardens in London, Ontario.
The Huntsman aquarium has lowered admission prices in 2010 as construction continues on the new discovery centre, set to open in June, 2011.

St. Stephen Graduation Banquet Tonight
Members of SSHS's senior class will be attending their banquet tonight as many get set to graduate this week.
The night will start off with the meal as young men and women finish up members of the school will be handing out awards....All Graduation ceremonies for Saint Andrews this year will be held this Friday..

Serious Collision in Saint John
St John City Police are investigating after a jogger was struck and killed by a motorcyle shortly before 7 last night on Bridge Road near the Reversing Falls Bridge. A woman was taken to hospital with serious head injuries described as life threatening. There's no word yet on any charges.

RCMP Enforce Zero tolerance this weekend
Once again RCMP will be enforcing their zero tolerance policy for drugs and alcohol this weekend and next as many will be celebrating graduation.
Open liquor will be seized, and those found in possession of open liquor will be subject to fines of $172.50. Bob MacKnight with the RCMP tells Tide News providing liquor to a minor will land you a fine of $292.50
Macknight tells us they are aware of the organized events, as well as a number of planned parties being held elsewhere. and says their priority will be to prevent anyone from causing harm to themselves or others.
Officers will, in particular be focused upon identifying and arresting those drivers who have been drinking and/ who are driving in an aggressive manner.

Contractors interested in the project are scheduled for June 22 and the following day one is set up for donor service providers . Both meetings will begin at 7 p.m. at the Superstore Community Room. Two public workshops are slated for June 24 and 29 at 7 p.m. at the St. Stephen Legion. Many people have been wondering what's next for this project leaving some to think it's hit a dead end....Members of The Civic Center project tell Tide News it's still moving foward.

Grade 8 Graduation SSMS
It was a packed house last night as 160 students received their diploma's at The St. Stephen Middle School for grade 8 graduation . The ceremony lasted about an hour and a half as the Principal and teaching staff handed off the diploma's and said their fare wells to the students as they make their way to the high school in the fall . Students ended the night dressed to kill in the Gym with a special Graduation dance in their honour hosted by Tempo Light.

Construction Contnures on the Route 1 Gateway Project...
An open house will take place tonight in St. George at The Magaguadavic Place for those wanting more information about the Route One Gateway Project. The Route 1 Gateway project focuses on the corridor that carries traffic from the St. Stephen/Calais International border to the Trans-Canada Highway in River Glade. The project includes the construction of 55 kilometres of new four-lane highway, selected upgrades to improve existing sections of Route 1 in New Brunswick and installation of 104 linear kilometres of wildlife fencing. Construction work as part of the project is to be finished by no later than July 31, 2013. The open house gets under way at 5 with presentations at 6:30... Those looking for work can drop in a speak to representing Dexture Construction on hand.
Facebook Threat
A Lunenburg County man has been sentenced to 18-months probation for using Facebook to threaten his mother's ex-boyfriend. Jonathan James Dagley of Italy Cross was in provincial court yesterday after pleading "guilty" to threatening to harm Allan Vernon Brown of Branch LaHave in March.
In addition to being placed on probation, Dagley was ordered to have no contact with Brown and to take mental health and anger management counselling as ordered by his probation officer.
Dagley received six-months "probation" in 2004 for "uttering threats" and a further 12-months probation in 2007 for the same crime.

Vincent Massey Teams up with Support our Troops...

Death of a student at SSHS
A funeral service is being held today for the victim of an ATV mishap over the weekend. Matthew Haley was the passenger on an all terrain vehicle which plunged down an embankment along Highway One . The driver was sent to hospital to be treated for injuries. No word yet if any charges will be laid .... Haley was set to graduate this year from St. Stephen High School and principal Jamie Waycott tells us final planning for their various events has not been completed although he says he is sure they will find a balance between celebrating the accomplishment of the graduating class and acknowledging the loss of one of their classmates.

Matthew Haley Funeral
Haley was killed this past weekend when the ATV he was on went over a cliff in St. Stephen.
Resting at The S.O. Mehan & Son Funeral Home Ltd. 23 Main Street, St Stephen N.B. from where the funeral service will be held today (June 17) at 2PM.

Missing Girl Found
A 16-year old girl missing from the St. Stephen area has been found safe sound.
Heather Dawn Daye of McAdam was reported missing on Sunday after she was dropped off at her grandmother's residence on Friday in Honeydale and never returned from a walk.
RCMP tell us Daye was located outside the province after a routine vehicle stop.

16-year-old girl reported missing St. Stephen
Heather Dawn Daye of McAdam was last seen on Friday, June 11 when she was dropped off at her grandmother’s residence in Honeydale, she told her grandmother she was going for a walk and has not been seen since.
Her family believes she may be accompanied by a 26-year-old man she knows who drives a 2001, two-door black Chevrolet Cavalier, NB license plate GJC 577 and that they may be heading towards British Columbia.
Heather Dawn Daye is described as 5'5" tall, 110-115lbs, with dark brown hair past her shoulders and blue eyes. She also has a piercing in her nose.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the RCMP at 1-888-506-RCMP(7267).
Support a Troop Saint Andrews 2010 Canada Day Parade
Members of the community will be taking part in this year’s Canada Day parade in Saint Andrews to show their support for Canadian troops. Shelley McIntyre, whose husband Dave is in Afghanistan with the RCMP tells Tide News Supporting the Troops entry will be walking in the parade behind the RCMP and the veterans.
McIntyre tells us people can bring picture of loved ones, ribbons or even dress the entire.
