A police investigation is underway into the drowning early yesterday morning of a 51 year old man whose canoe capsized on Douglas Lake behind Morrison Road in East Saint John. People who live in the neighbourhood heard a man screaming for help and they ploughed into the lake trying to save the victim who was found at the bottom. He was brought to shore and C-P-R was performed on him but to no avail. Both the fire department and Lifesaving Society are warning boaters to wear a life jacket.
A short time later, the fire department was called to a blaze at 70 Mountain Road. The cause is considered suspicious and the Major Crime Unit is investigating. No one was at home when the fire began. Damage to the home is severe.
